Now, let’s see the results of our research on the topic of Gero. ^^

Hey Gero, please introduce yourself.
My name is Gergan (known as Gero) Nikolov. Originally born in Sofia, Bulgaria but as a programmer I’m coming from the darkest realms of the Coding World 😀

What’s your specialty?
By degree, I’m a software developer. By passion, I’m a person who loves to create things – from the beautiful interface of the application to the hardcore algorithms which are driving the real thing!

How many languages do you speak?
Hmm… Actually thinking on this I’m speaking a lot of languages, most of which are not commonly used on the street (PHP, JS, etc.)

What was your first encounter with WordPress?
For a very first time I heard the name „WordPress“ back in the days when I was still in school. Back then I was building a blogging platform called Blogy (some of you may know it, some may not) and one of my friends asked me: So what is the difference between this and WordPress? Then I didn’t even knew what is WordPress, so I googled it for a while, made my very first installation and slowly slowly I „fell in love“ with the core.

What is the best WordPress advice you have ever received?
Hmm very interesting things are coming to my mind, but probably the most curios and useful advice which I’ve ever received was: „Even WordPress is huge and can handle a great projects, don’t build your database structure like the core does. It’s not perfect!“

What is your motivation to speak at WordCamp Sofia 2017?
Last few years I’m attending at almost every local WordCamp in Bulgaria and the ones which are near to it. So this year I’ve decided to check what is it to be on the other side of the screen!

How did you choose the topic of your talk?
Few weeks before the „call for speakers“ was announced I was in a serious „burnout phase“ in my work and daily life. After a long and sad struggle to get out of this zone I decided to see if there are some other people who felt the same. After all, here we are on 11th of November around 3PM where we’re going to „solve the burnout problem“ together, once and for all! 😀

Share your life philosophy in three words.
The slogan which drives me is: Respect the others and they’ll respect you too! Showing a respect to something doesn’t matter if it’s a person, animal or even your work will pay you off multiplied by 10, sooner or later!
